Abeka DISTRICT

History of Abeka District

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. Romans 15:4 NIV.

The Abeka Pastoral District was established by the HOLY SPIRIT to carry out the Great Commission of our LORD Jesus Christ within the environs of Abeka, New Fadama, Akweteman, Tabora, Chantan, Nii Boi Town, Race course and Lapaz.

The Abeka District came to being by the existence of the Abeka Local now the Royal Priesthood Congregation which was established on 27th July, 1968.  The General Assembly Council of the PCG upon realising the rapid and swift growth of the Abeka Congregation and some congregations within the catchment area, considered it worthy of a District status.

Prior to the elevation in 1992, all District Groups and Committees were established, and were fully operating at all the relevant courts of the church.

The elevation service of the Abeka District took place on Sunday, 22nd March, 1992. The Elevation service was officiated by the late Rt. Rev. D.A. Koranteng, the Moderator of the Synod and he was assisted by the late Rev. E.S. Mate Kodjo, who was the Synod Clerk and Rev. Dr. B.Y. Quarshie, the Ga Presbytery Chairman.
Years after the elevation, the number of Congregations in the District grew from 7 to 12 and later added 3 preaching posts to it through rigorous evangelism. Unfortunately, the split of the Ga presbytery into two affected the district. Through that demarcation, the district lost three of her strong and promising congregations to the now Ga Presbytery. Again, further re-alignments of the districts within the Ga West Presbytery also took two congregations to join the New Achimota and the Ablekuma districts. Today, the district is left with nine (9) congregations and an NOM Preaching post at Amasaman.

Statistically the district has the following figures:
Agents

  1. The district has 9 Ordained Ministers.
    1. 8 Full time and 1 Tent
    2. 7 Males and 2 Females
  2. The District has 9 Catechists and 1 Caretaker
  3. 117 Presbyters and 10 IMC
  4. 4 Evangelist
  5. Total population of the district is 5,818

Project

The pacesetters bought an acre of land for the district which for the last three years has been the focus of the district to put it to use. To the glory of God, two plots of the land has been used for an event centre, which was commissioned on the 4th September, 2020. The district envisages using this project to impact the community by providing a serene place for events as well as raise funds to support the district. Currently the project has received patronage from the community and hope to gain more popularity in the next few months.

The District is currently led by Rev. Joseph Richmond Tettey and he is ably assisted by Mrs. Joyce Owusua Barfi, the District Session Clerk and Catechist Peter K. Appiah the Lay Rep.
